Impact Suffolk’s March for Jesus will take place this Saturday in downtown Suffolk, and anyone is invited to participate in the walk or the activities following it.
“We’re trying to really focus on community, and the whole community of Suffolk,” said Richard Maples, chairman of this year’s event. “We want to bless the Lord and also the community.”
Marchers will gather at Market Park, 326 N. Main St., at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., the walk to Constant’s Wharf, 110 E. Constance Road, will begin.
Once the march has arrived at its destination, there will be special music and speakers, drama troupes from area churches, free food, health screenings, a bounce house and other children’s activities and more.
“We want to have kids out there to have a good time and have fun,” Maples said. “We’ll also have some crafts this year for the children.”
This year’s special speaker is Win Anderson, Maples said. Information on Christian Youth in Action and other groups will be available.
“There’s really something for any age group of people that can come out, and it would be a blessing to them,” Maples said. “The focus is really on the community and everyone coming together to enjoy themselves and share love with one another.”
More than 15 churches will participate. Impact Suffolk is a cooperative of many local churches that coordinates events such as the Thanksgiving food giveaway behind Farm Fresh.
“We’re excited about this opportunity,” Maples said. “All the different churches come together to touch people’s hearts and lift up Jesus over Suffolk.”
Lawn chairs are recommended for the events at Constant’s Wharf, which will last until about noon. Call Maples at 652-3332 for more information.
