The regular-season conference-champion girls’ soccer team of Suffolk Christian Academy produced four first-time all-conference selections, three first-team members and one second-team representative.

Freshman Sidney Tredway made the All-Hampton Roads Athletic Conference’s first team.

“It feels really amazing,” she said. “It took me by surprise.”

Lady Knights head coach Jeremy Effler said Tredway has “just been a great staple in the back line. I could put her up and score goals with her, too, so she’s good both in the front line and the back line. She’s just a good overall player.”

At the time her statistics were submitted for all-conference consideration, she had 22 tackles and 18 steals against conference opponents, mostly in her primary position of center defender, and she also had scored one goal.

Senior left defender Jenny Rombs’ first team honor was a long time coming.

“I’ve been on the team since seventh grade, so I feel like I’ve worked up to it,” she said. “It’s always been a goal of mine.”

Effler gave his take on why the coaches of the teams in the HRAC voted for Rombs.

“She’s super-fast on the back line, and she’s really the captain of all the defense, because she can get the ladies rallied into position, and she brings that maturity and stability to the team,” he said. “She’s had great saves, as well.”

When her in-conference stats were submitted, Rombs had produced 17 tackles and 15 steals.

Suffolk Christian’s third first team member was sophomore Emma VanDorn.

Accounting for her selection, she said, “It was my first year playing forward, like main forward, so I guess I really tried harder to prove myself” for the new head coach, Effler.

Effler said she has always played in the midfield, until the third game of this season, that is.

“I put her up on striker, and she rose to the occasion,” he said. “She scored goals that won us games during the season.”

VanDorn’s in-conference stats at the time of submission included four goals, three assists, two tackles and three steals.

Freshman forward Victoria Twisdale was named to the All-HRAC second team.

She said it was an honor and noted she thought her game stood out this year because of her team spirit.

“We played more as a team this year than we did last year,” she said.

Effler described how Twisdale contributed to the team-oriented play with VanDorn.

“In the past, I think she’s used to being a primary striker, just coming up, but she’s had good help, and a teammate that worked with her well, so she’s been able to actually assist in a lot of crosses and a lot of things like that,” he said.

Twisdale’s in-conference stats when submitted featured four goals, two assists, three tackles and two steals.
