NSA falls in state lacrosse championship

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints fell 12-10 to Covenant School on Saturday in the VISAA Division 2 boys’ lacrosse state championship. It was the Saints’ first championship game appearance since 2001.
NSA jumped out to a 4-1 lead midway through the first quarter and led by one at the end of the period. Covenant took a 6-5 lead into halftime. The score was tied 9-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
Covenant had its biggest lead of the game, at 12-9, midway through the final period, when NSA scored the last goal of the match.
A couple of late penalties allowed Covenant to use the clock to their advantage late in the game.
Jacob Edwards and Noah Dowd led the Saints with five points apiece.
