Senior Darcy King capped off her five-year varsity soccer career at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy with her second selection to the All-TCIS first team and fourth all-conference honor overall.

“It means a lot,” King said. “I’ve been playing soccer since I was 4, and it’s more of like my hard work’s paid off. It’s a big honor for me to have. I’m really pleased that I was able to finish my senior year with that.”

The Lady Saints went 5-9-1 this year overall and 2-7 in the conference. She contributed five goals and two assists.

“She definitely stood out and is a talented player,” NSA head coach Sue Starkey said, noting King’s strength is dribbling and then trying to follow on her shot.

The coach also noted King is a year-around player who exhibited a lot of maturity on the field in terms of her decision-making, most notably in her unselfishness with the ball. It may not have always meant she got an assist, but it contributed to the fact that 13 of the 17 players on the team scored this year.

She played the majority of every game, and Starkey said, “She’s able to play any place on the field and do a fine job.”

King sometimes moved back to midfield this year due to injuries on the team, but primarily played forward.

As a sophomore, she made the All-Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools first team and was selected to the second team as a junior and as an eighth-grader.
