Mary G. Steward, 84, of 2628 Riddick Drive, Suffolk, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her residence. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Mary F. Gatling.

She retired from Planters Peanut Company. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunday School, Senior Citizens choir and Missionary Board.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Joyce L. Jordan, of Portsmouth; one stepson, James C. Steward Jr.; five grandchildren, Curtis Gatling, of Suffolk, Shelia Mitchell (Tony Sr.), of Suffolk, Tarsha Artis, of Hampton, Jada Jordan, of Newport News, and Kimberly Jordan-Dillard (Carlton), of Hampton; seven great-grandchildren, Dantwan Gatling, TaMichael Jordan, Phillip Artis Jr., Kymani Jordan, Kiera Jordan, Kaela Jordan and Keon Jordan; daughter-in-law, Ruth Gatling; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be in Oak Grove Church Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
