The King’s Fork High School baseball team continued its most successful season in school history with a 16-2 win over host and conference foe Heritage High School on Tuesday.

“Everything was put together for us,” Bulldogs head coach Pat Stafford said. “We had good offense, good defense, good pitching.”

King’s Fork was only up 2-1 going into the second inning, but Stafford said some early adjustments soon helped his batters string hits together. The Bulldogs piled up six runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth.

For the game, junior Cal Bailey went 2-for-4, with two doubles and five runs batted in. Six Bulldogs batters had two hits each. Freshman Tristen DeGuzman stole five bases on five attempts.

Freshman Ricky McCleod improved to 1-1 on the mound. He threw 11 strikeouts, including nine in the final three innings of the five-inning mercy rule-shortened contest.

Before this year, King’s Fork had never won more than five games in a season. With this win, it has seven, and the Bulldogs got back to .500 overall.

Stafford said his team has lost many close games in previous years, but “this year, we’ve actually been able to prevail.”

King’s Fork (7-7, 3-1) hosts Phoebus High School today.
