NSA baseball opens TCIS with win

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints began the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools baseball tournament with a 15-1 quarterfinal win over visiting Peninsula Catholic High School on Tuesday.
Sophomore Cole Williams pitched five innings, allowing only three hits while throwing eight strikeouts to get his first win.
Saints senior Will Breedlove and sophomore Sam Neal each went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, and senior Jake Grady went 2-for-4 with a double.
NSA had closed out its regular season on Saturday, beating visiting Hampton Roads Academy 7-6 to finish with a 12-5 overall record, 7-2 in the TCIS.
Junior Cam Sutton provided excellent pitching in relief, earning his first win of the season.
On offense, junior Toby Buchanan, senior Greg Beale, senior Ethan Stewart and Grady each had two hits. Buchanan and Beale also had two RBIs each.
The Saints (13-5) play in the TCIS semifinals at 7:30 p.m. this evening against Norfolk Christian High School at Old Dominion University.
