Downtown Suffolk blooms

The newest florist in town isn’t new to the business, but she’s hoping to bring fresh smiles to her customers and passersby in downtown Suffolk.
Jodi Cobb’s first job was delivering flowers for a florist in Elizabeth City, N.C. She later delivered during the holidays, worked at another florist for a while, and then bought that florist out and made it her own shop.
But then she got out of the business for a while, and then got married and moved to Suffolk about seven years ago. The time recently felt right to get back into the business.
“It’s just kind of weird how it fell into place,” Cobb said recently. “I thought it would be a good time to try it.”
Her new business, All a Bloom Florist and Gifts, opened for business at 400 W. Washington St. and recently held a ribbon cutting, where Vice Mayor Charles Brown was in attendance.
“You have the capability of making a lot of folks happy,” Brown said. “The good Lord sent us flowers, so when we give flowers, it means happiness.”
Cobb said the business will provide arrangements from online services, as well as one-of-a-kind arrangements. Flowers for weddings, funerals and other special events are also available, and the shop also will sell gift baskets, crocheted baby blankets, frames and knickknacks.
“I’m very blessed to be standing here doing what I love to do,” Cobb said. “Flowers have special meaning to many people. We are so excited to be able to help make a difference in someone’s day.
The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. They can be reached at 539-0770 or on Facebook.
