Two women were treated at a hospital after an early morning, two-alarm fire Tuesday on Holladay Street.

Units responding to a 12:41 a.m. call arrived seven minutes later to the 200 block of Holladay Street. The two-story residence had a fire in the rear of the house, as well as heavy smoke, according to a press release from the city.

Firefighters rescued one woman trapped on the first floor of the residence. She and a second woman were transported to Sentara Obici Hospital. Both women’s injuries were described as not life threatening, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

Five adults and one child are affected and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Six residents at a house next door, where the side of the house and a car were damaged from the heat of the flames, will be staying with relatives.

A four-unit apartment building next door was also evacuated, but the eight residents were eventually allowed to return.

A number of units responded to the fire, including Engines 1, 2, 3 and 4, Rescue 1, Ladders 3 and 6, Medics 1, 3 and 6, Rehab 6, Car 1 and Battalion 1.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
