KFHS to host baseball tourney

This Saturday afternoon will bring the start of the first King’s Fork Spring Break Classic Baseball Tournament.
After taking a break on Sunday, the four-day, six-team event, will run through Wednesday, featuring nine games in all on King’s Fork High School’s primary baseball field.
Bulldogs head coach Pat Stafford explained that the tourney will not only give King’s Fork fans a chance to watch their team, but “you’re going to get a chance to see players from around the area.”
The teams participating include Booker T. Washington, Churchland, Denbigh, Southampton and Woodrow Wilson high schools.
“I wanted to host one,” Stafford said. “It’s definitely going to be a bit of a fund-raiser for us.”
Strategically, it will give the Bulldogs an idea of how deep area opponents’ pitching is as everyone gets set up for the end of the year.
Stafford is also hoping the event will help acclimate his players to a tournament setting in preparation for another important one coming up.
“It’s kind of set up similar to the way our end-of-the-season conference tournament is,” he said.
The entry fee for spectators is $7 per day for adults and $5 per day for children 12 and under. Tournament passes will also be sold, granting admission for three days. For adults, it will cost $15 and for children 12 and under it will cost $12. Children 4 and under get in for free.
