Emanuel McCoy Myrick Sr., 86, of the 600 block of First Avenue, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 4, 2014, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 7, 1928, to the late Mabel S. Riddick and Stack Fortune in Hicksville.

Emanuel was a 1947 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged. He was employed with Quality Cleaners and Newport News Shipyard until his retirement.

Emanuel was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.

Left behind to celebrate Emanuel’s memory are his wife, Ella M. Myrick; children, Frederick Goodman, Deborah Parker (Jerome), Valerie Jones, Vincent Thorne, Anthony Thorne, Emanuel M. Myrick Jr. (Elayne), Niketa Myrick, Cynthia Myrick, Tracy Cross and Kevin B. Myrick; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place on Wednesday at noon at Bethlehem Christian Church, and he will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m., and the family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m.
