Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Katie Peelen, sophomore for Lakeland High School softball: Her outstanding performance against visiting King’s Fork High School on Monday was directly responsible for her team’s 4-3 win. She went 2-for-4 and produced the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning. On the mound, she struck out three and limited the Lady Bulldogs to five hits.
  • Lauren Davis, sophomore for Nansemond River High School softball: She recorded three RBIs on Tuesday to contribute to an 11-1 win over visiting Oscar Smith High School. She had three more on Wednesday, aiding a 10-2 comeback win at King’s Fork High School. She went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in Friday’s 8-6 win against visiting Hickory High School.
  • Duke Santora, junior for King’s Fork High School baseball: He came off the bench and hit a triple against host Lakeland High School on Monday, batting in a runner to tie the game, contributing to an eventual 3-2 win. Despite Wednesday’s 6-5 Bulldog home loss, he led them with two hits and aided a late, confidence-inspiring rally against tough Nansemond River High School.
