SUFFOLK — Robert “Bob” Morris Brooks Jr., 60, passed away on April 3, 2014, in his home with his loving family by his side. Mr. Brooks was the son of the late Robert M. Brooks Sr. and Eleanor Brooks Gregory. He is preceded in death by his brother, Eric P. Brooks, and stepfather, Eugene Gregory.

Bob was a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Suffolk, where he was a member of the McLemore Bible Class, Lay Leader and Lay Reader. He was active in the PTA and past PTA president while his sons were in school. He served many years in law enforcement in Suffolk and Franklin before moving over to the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, serving 34 years before retiring. Bob was involved with the Suffolk YMCA, and he ran many half marathons and carried the torch for the Special Olympics.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Twine Brooks; sons, R. Joshua Brooks (Ashley), of Isle of Wight, and Nathan E. Brooks (April), of Portsmouth; brother, Grover E. Brooks (Betty); sister-in-law, Annette Brooks; numerous nephews and nieces; aunts Patty G. Kent, of Charleston, W.Va., and Marlene Perdue of Mason, Ohio; and his “other sons” Kevin Spain, Eddie Wright and Aaron McKissick.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, April 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434, by the Rev. Myrtle F. Hatcher, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m.
