A fatal accident on Interstate 664 northbound had the interstate closed for part of the morning and afternoon.

Virginia State Police said an adult female died at the scene after the 2013 Toyota she was driving drove into the rear of a 2010 Kenworth tractor-trailer that was stopped due to a wide load crossing the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel, according to state police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya. It happened at 10:55 a.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Traffic was rerouted to Route 17 during the closure.
