Elsie Ophelia McCray, 88, died Friday, March 21, 2014, at her residence in Chesapeake. Elsie McCray was born in North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mittie Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie McCray. She retired from Suffolk City Schools as a dietitian.

Survivors to cherish her memory two daughters, Cheryl Barttett and Elsie Mae Johnson; two sons, Steven I. McCray and Michael McCray; one sister, Jeannette Jenkins; one brother, Clarence Marshall; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, Suffolk, officiated by Dr. Vernon Hairston. Interment will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Frederick Barttett, 23253 Tara Court, Carrollton, VA 23314. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
