A police officer was responding to a call when he was involved in a crash with two other vehicles on Sunday afternoon, the city says.

The wreck happened at 4:38 p.m. at the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Suburban Drive. A 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by a 71-year-old female, and a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 33-year-old female, were also involved.

The Impala driver did not complain of injuries, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said in a press release. The Taurus driver was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not believed life-threatening.

The officer was treated and released at Sentara Obici Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, Klink said.
