Suffolk police have made an arrest in a vehicle theft that occurred this weekend and have linked the suspect to several thefts from vehicles that occurred in the same time period, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said in a press release.

Peter Michael Vanderlinden, 30, of the 4600 block of Shoulders Hill Road, has been charged with grand larceny and possession of burglary tools. He also was in possession of various forms of personal identification believed stolen from other vehicles, according to the press release.

The car, a Toyota Sienna, had been reported stolen from the 5000 block of Hunt Club Chase on Saturday night. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

Early Sunday, officers received a report of a vehicle being operated recklessly that matched the stolen vehicle’s description. They found it at the Walgreens parking lot at the corner of Bridge and Shoulders Hill roads.

Suffolk police are asking any citizens who experienced thefts from their vehicles in the area of Bennetts Creek Park Road on Feb. 22-23 to report the incidents by calling 923-2350, option 0.

Police also urge citizens to lock their vehicles and remove valuables or place them in the trunk.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. Vanderlinden is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
