U.S. Marshals have arrested a man wanted in Suffolk in connection with a June homicide.

Jeffrey O’Neil Jennings Jr., formerly of the 400 block of St. James Ave. in Suffolk, was arrested without incident Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., and is being held at the Criminal Justice Center in that city while awaiting extradition back to Virginia, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Timothy Alley, a spokesman for the Marshals Service’s Norfolk office.

Jennings faces arrest warrants in Suffolk on charges of homicide, possession with intent to distribute and firearms offenses connected to a fatal shooting of Lloyd Randolph Green Sr. outside a party June 29 in the 1000 block of Cogic Square.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Suffolk police released little information about the circumstances that led to it. In a press release announcing the arrest on Wednesday, the Marshals Service stated that it has been alleged there was an argument between the men that subsequently calmed. But according to marshals, the situation soon turned tragic.

“(It) is alleged that Jennings tracked down this other individual and shot him in the back of the head,” the release states. “Investigators believe that Jennings then stood over the body and fire more shots, at point-blank range.”

Working with the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force in Norfolk, Suffolk police investigators determined that Jennings might have fled Hampton Roads and moved to Nashville, Alley stated in the release. Deputy marshals in Tennessee were brought onto the case and were able to identity and arrest Jennings on Tuesday morning, he added.

The marshals’ task force was formed to help find and arrest violent offenders with outstanding federal and state arrest warrants, Alley stated. The task force includes law enforcement officers from the Marshals Service, the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Department, the Newport News Police Department, the Portsmouth Police Department and the Norfolk Police Department.
