Mayfield George Dickens

Mayfield George Dickens, 92, of 303 Baker St., Suffolk, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Autumn Care of Suffolk. He was a native of Halifax, N.C., and the son of the late Govenor Dickens and Romania Dickens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Selma Patillo; and brother, Thurman Dickens.

He served in the U.S. Army and received various awards. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 32 years of service. Mr. Dickens was a member of New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Shirley Virginia Dickens, of Suffolk; one son, William Henry Harrell (Carol), of Ruther Glen; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Thurman Mayfield Patillo (Burnette); niece, Selma Walcott; five great-nephews and two great-nieces; and a host of cousins, other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries, officiated by Overseer Viola Parker. Interment will be in Albert G.
