Alonzo O. Coker

Alonzo O’Neal Coker passed away Feb. 12, 2014, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital at age 60.

He was born Oct. 10, 1953, in Suffolk, to the late William A. and Myrtle H. Coker.

Alonzo was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street, where he was a member of the youth usher board, Temple Choir, Chancel Choir and the Male Chorus.  Alonzo loved music and singing. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School class of 1972 and Norfolk State University class of 1978.

Alonzo is survived by his brother, Larry D. Coker (Princess); three sisters, Cathy D. Warren (Marvin), of Oakland, Calif., Karan C. Wright (John), and Tammy M. Coker; one uncle, Otis Richards; one aunt, Janet Edwards; 14 nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.

Mr. Coker’s viewing will be held Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Inc. from 1 to 7 p.m., and the family will receive guests from 6 to 7 p.m. The family will receive guests at 327 S. Main St. at all other times. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church Mahan Street.
