One Suffolk hospital placed among the top 10 in the state that have delivered outstanding results with the Paternity Establishment Program.

The program is designed give unmarried parents the chance to determine paternity of their newborns before they leave the hospital.

“Each child born in Virginia and throughout the nation deserves the benefits of having two parents acknowledged,” said Nick Young, the director of the Virginia Department of Social Services Division of Child Support Enforcement. “It represents our commitment to the children we serve.”

Warren Memorial Hospital-Valley Health in Front Royal took the top spot with a establishment rate of 79.91 percent.

The hospital determined the paternity for 179 of the 224 births to unmarried parents.

Warren Memorial’s percentage of unmarried parent births versus married parent births is one of the highest out of the participating hospitals at 56 percent.
