A break in the monotony

Though most folks probably could have found it somewhat easier to appreciate the snow days if they had come with temperatures in the 30s, rather than the teens and 20s, Suffolkians seemed nonetheless excited and pleased for the midweek break on Wednesday.
Turn to Page 8 for a look at how some of our readers and their children (and, in many cases, their animals) enjoyed their day. For even more reader-submitted photos, visit our Facebook page, where we’ve got a huge gallery of photos submitted throughout the day on Wednesday.
Judging from appearances, most folks — especially the younger ones — didn’t let the frigid temperatures get in the way of a good time.
January is often thought of as a long, dreary, gray month, but nothing cuts through the winter blues quite like a snowman in the front yard or a snowball fight with the neighbors.
Nobody’s likely to complain when temperatures rise above freezing again — and for some of us, wind-chilled temperatures below zero feel like a cue to line up plane tickets to Hawaii. But we suspect a lot of pleasant memories were made in backyards around Suffolk on Wednesday, and that can hardly be a bad thing.
