Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Marvin Branch, senior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He has been clutch on both ends of the court for the undefeated Warriors. On Thursday, he had 14 points and five boards and executed great defense on Deep Creek High School’s leading scorer. On Tuesday, he severely limited Western Branch High School’s Nigel Ribeiro, the leading scorer in the area.
  • Khadedra Croker, senior for King’s Fork High School basketball: She produced another spectacular week on the court, with back-to-back triple-doubles. In a 59-58 overtime win against host Western Branch High School on Friday, she had 23 points, 19 rebounds and 13 blocks. In Tuesday’s 57-31 blowout of visiting Hickory High School, she had 13 points, 13 boards and 10 blocks.
  • Jessica Pieroni, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: She led her team in scoring for each game of a stellar 3-0 week. In a 54-39 Tuesday win against host Hampton Roads Academy, she had 19 points. On Thursday, she had 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 54-27 win over host Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School. On Saturday, she scored 20 points in a 54-52 win over visiting Collegiate School.
