Lakeland grounds Hornets

Sophomore Deonta Knight lent a double-double to Lakeland High School’s 58-50 win against visiting Deep Creek High School on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers led by no more than four points at the end of each quarter before pulling further away in the end, getting back to .500 for the season.

Knight had 17 points and 12 rebounds, sophomore Jaquan Yulee had 15 points and five boards and senior Marche’ Everette added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Lakeland (6-6, 0-2) visits Grassfield High School tonight.

 

Bulldogs burn Hickory

King’s Fork High School improved to 8-4 on the season with a dominant 55-21 victory over host Hickory High School on Tuesday evening.

Junior Dale Roscoe led a balanced scoring effort for the Bulldogs with 10 points, while junior Nic Walker had eight and senior Ricky Scott had seven. Senior Jonathan Holloway, junior Tyese Pressley and sophomore Keith Stagg had six points apiece.

King’s Fork (8-4, 1-1) hosts Western Branch High School on Friday night.

 

Vikings conquer IWA

Broadwater Academy’s boys’ basketball team used a big third quarter to deal visiting conference foe Isle of Wight Academy a 75-42 loss on Tuesday.

Senior guard Justice Fuller led the Chargers with 10 points.

IWA (2-11, 0-6) visits Alliance Christian Academy on Monday.

 

NRHS’ Johnson takes first

The second day of the Southeastern Invitational at the Boo Williams Sportsplex brought another first place finisher for Nansemond River High School.

Sophomore Brandee Johnson won the 500-meter dash on Saturday with a Group 5A state-qualifying time of 1:18.37.

Junior Zakiya Rashid had won the shot put the day before.
