Up, up and away

To the editor:
I have had the most rewarding experience involving my grandson Jackson, 19, and my granddaughter, Bailey, 16. Jackson is a student at North Carolina State University, and Bailey is a junior at Isle of Wight Academy.
Who ever would have imagined two youth at these ages wanting to share a hot-air balloon ride with their grandmother? Well, that’s exactly what we did on Friday — bright and early and cold, though it was. The trip was a birthday gift from my husband.
We lifted off from the Isle of Wight fairgrounds, and 40 or so minutes later, we put down in the middle of a field belonging to an unidentified farmer. The ride was great, but the coming down was a bit rocky — fun and daring.
To the two gentlemen who navigated our airship, thank you so much. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share laughs, stories and quality time with my two treasures.
To Jackson and Bailey, thank you for not being ashamed of your crazy grandmother. And to my husband and son, thanks for maneuvering the chase car all over Suffolk and Isle of Wight County.
What a great adventure! Maybe in the near future, we will attempt a parachute jump.
What can I say? Bring it on!
