Elks selling Christmas trees

Finding a Christmas tree to trim can mean picking one from among the masses at a big department store, or it can mean getting personalized service and helping the community at the same time.
Folks looking for the latter experience can visit the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685 at 329 W. Constance Road. But they should visit soon, or the trees will all be gone.
The Elks have about 125 Fraser firs to sell, and they are going for $45 or $50, depending on size.
“Come buy a tree and put your money back in the community,” Elks member Jimmy Franks said.
The organization supports numerous other community projects and clubs with the money. Each year it does an appreciation event for wounded troops in cooperation with the Boy Scouts, and it also supports the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and others.
“More or less, whoever asks us, we try to accommodate,” Franks said.
The lodge is open from 3 to 8 p.m. on weeknights. Members will also be available to help customers all day on Saturdays and Sundays until the trees are gone, Franks said.
