The victim in a Sunday afternoon skydiving accident remains in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

John Talbot Brown, 23, made a hard landing at the Suffolk Executive Airport at 3:52 p.m., even though his parachute opened, Klink said in the news release. Emergency personnel arrived six minutes later, and Brown was flown via Nightingale to the hospital.

Brown is a member of the U.S. Navy and is stationed at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Klink said. He is an experienced skydiver and had successfully jumped several times earlier in the day, she added.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
