In Chuckatuck Saturday, 97-year-old Eloise Bailey shares the scissors to officially open the renovated Gwaltney store. Bailey, great-aunt of the individual largely responsible for the restoration, Kent Gwaltney, pictured to her right, flew in from Nashville for the event. Her brother, George Lafayette Gwaltney, took over the business in the 1920s. “I think my brother is looking down on us,” she said. Also crowding in are city officials, Councilmen Roger Fawcett and Mike Duman, Sheriff Raleigh H. Isaacs, Treasurer Ron Williams, and Mayor Linda T. Johnson; and Gwaltney family members, Carolyn Gwaltney, 3-year-old Andy Steele, Lindsay Steele, 1-year-old Ella Steele, Stephen Steele, Robert Warren, 3-year-old Adair Warren, April Warren, and Leslie Hamrick with Emma, 5, and Hannah, 4, Hamrick.
