To the editor:

After reading the article “New library concept includes college,” published Oct. 4, I thought about the City of Suffolk and Paul D. Camp Community College, a state-funded establishment, and wondered if this will end up being funded from Suffolk taxpayers’ pockets.

In addition, I also wondered, why Paul D. Camp is willing to move a valuable resource such as the library away from its campus. With students coming and going, the college should explore more options to compromise without moving a library across the city.

Others may look at Paul D. Camp on a map and see that what is located adjacent to their property is an empty lot. Most students cannot afford to travel to other places in their busy academics careers.

If Paul D. Camp would explore more options, instead of just moving the library off campus to a new location across town, then they might see the prime location for the library is on their own property.

They would also not have to create unnecessary four-way intersections in downtown that will cause Suffolk’s people a delay in transit and cost us money and time.

By offering a library on campus, students could get their education and resources within a confined proximity located on school grounds. Students may find this easier than attending classes, needing resources and then having to drive to get them, when they could just walk next door.

Paul D. Camp should not move the key to success out of reach of students, nor should taxpayers be responsible for paying to reconfigure the streets if this building is coming.
