A one-day silver precious metal clay class is being offered at the Suffolk Art Gallery on Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cynthia Quesenberry will take participants through a step-by-step process to produce charms, pendants and earrings. Students will learn the basics of working with precious metal clay, using several approaches for forming, texturing, cutting, joining, draping and decorating. No experience is necessary.
Precious metal clay is pure silver, water and organic binder in a clay form that can be easily manipulated to make jewelry. When fired in a kiln, the binders and the water burn off, leaving a silver product. Students may bring their own polymer clay tools, jewelry pliers, findings, beads, etc., that they may like to use.
The class fee is $65 and it is open to students 16 and older. Registration is required by Sept. 20. This class is limited to 10 students. Call 514-7284.
