A new magazine for Suffolk women

Published 9:02 pm Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Data from a recent survey of Suffolk News-Herald readers got us to thinking about the need for new content of interest to a large and loyal segment of our readership:

Women.

Working moms, especially.

Fifty-five percent of our 30,000-plus regular readers are women, according to research by the Circulation Verification Council. Three-fourths of those women are between the ages of 25 and 54. Those were eye-opening numbers for us.

On Thursday, we will publish the first issue of what we expect to be a quarterly product just for the women of Suffolk. Inspire Health, a glossy magazine chock full of useful information about women’s physical, mental and spiritual health, will be inserted in every copy of the newspaper.

We think you’ll like it.

Here’s a sampling of content in the debut issue:

4Advice on preventive health care from Dr. Lisa Ford, board-certified family practitioner with the Bon Secours-affiliated Harbour View Family Practice.

4Insight on the importance of hydration and the benefits, including weight loss, derived from simply drinking enough water.

4Step-by-step instructions for the ultimate core training workout.

4A cover story on smart sun exposure. Yes, there is such a thing, experts tell us.

4Six easy steps to “fabulous health and positive energy.”

4Tips for keeping your kids active and for maintaining a youthful figure.

We are grateful to the advertisers who went out on a limb with us and made the first issue of Inspire Health possible: Bon Secours, D.B. Bowles Jewelers, Woodard Orthodontics, Dr. Chris Dowd of Cornerstone Family Practice, Denison’s clothing store, J. Dwight Bradshaw, DDS, Maureen’s School of Dance, Drs. Jett, Sellers and LaRusso Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Genis Women’s Care.

If you like the magazine, be sure to thank these fine businesses for supporting it. We’re looking for additional advertisers to make future issues bigger and even better. Call or shoot me an email if you’re interested in ad space for your business or organization in our fall issue.
