‘Thank you’ and ‘Welcome home’

To the editor:
On Aug. 2 and 4 of 1964, attacks were reported against two U.S. Navy ships operating near Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin.
As a result, the U.S. Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the United States began a massive increase in the number of American military personnel in the war in Vietnam.
Although our military served with honor and distinction in this war, many of the Vietnam veterans would not receive the respect and honor they deserved when returning home.
The members of the Joe Bagley VFW Post 2582 in Suffolk want to pause and say “Thank you” and “Welcome home” to our nation’s veterans from the war in Vietnam.
