John C. Bowers

Deacon John C. Bowers, of Burdette Road, Carrsville, departed this life on June 10, 2013, while a patient in Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. The Henrico County native was born on May 16, 1926. He was a retired self-employed farmer and a member of Chapel Grove U.C.C., where he served on the Deacon Board and Men’s Fellowship, and for many years, he served as superintendent and treasurer of the Sunday school.
Deacon Bowers was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila C. Bowers. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Evans Bowers; three sons, Leo C. Bowers (Leslie), Timothy C. Bowers (Sabrina) and Michael C. Bowers; daughter, Monica A. Jones; two brothers, Clifton F. Bowers (Fannie), Moses Bowers (Virginia); seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other in-laws.
A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013, Chapel Grove U.C.C., 7366 West Blackwater Road, Windsor, with the Rev. J.J. Ferguson delivering the message of comfort; Dr. H. Caryle Church is pastor. The interment is in the church cemetery. Deacon Bowers’ remains will be placed in the church for viewing by 11 a.m. A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
