The threat was found written on a wall in the boys’ bathroom about 1 p.m. Tuesday. It followed a string of similar threats at King’s Fork High, King’s Fork Middle and Lakeland High schools.

A middle-school student was charged Tuesday with one of the threats at King’s Fork Middle School.

In the wake of the threats, school officials have instituted random metal detector checks and extra police and fire officers at campuses. Some of the threats sparked high rates of student absenteeism — as much as 65 percent at King’s Fork High School on April 26, when social media-fueled rumors and a threat written on a bathroom wall said the school would be attacked.

Students at some schools also have been required to sign into and out of the restrooms, and the entrances to the restrooms were watched with video surveillance equipment — a move school officials said was key to the two students being arrested. Students also have not been permitted to carry bookbags into the restrooms.
