Senior Devin Coyne pitched a no-hitter against visiting Norfolk Academy on Wednesday as the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy softball team cruised to a 13-0 victory in the first round of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament.
NSA piled up 10 runs in the first two innings and recorded 16 hits for the game en route to a five-inning mercy rule finish.
The Lady Saints had primed themselves for the playoffs by closing the regular season last Friday with a 12-1 road victory over TCIS foe Hampton Roads Academy. Coyne allowed only two hits to improve to 9-3 for the year. On offense, NSA had 18 hits. Junior Macy Mears went 3-for-4 and freshman Brooklyn Carr hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning.
Nansemond-Suffolk continued its quest to repeat as TCIS champions last night when it faced Cape Henry Collegiate School at Greenbrier Christian Academy.
