Shirley Lorraine Anderson

Shirley Lorraine Anderson, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2013. Born in Clinton, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Orpha Moore. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Orville Anderson. Shirley had been a resident of Suffolk since she and Don moved from Clinton in 1966.
Shirley was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She was an active member of Oxford United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the church choir and also with the Pickard Chorale for many years. She was an avid bridge player, a fan of many sports, and an animal lover whose home became a refuge for many abandoned pets over the years. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drive for more than 25 years.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Patricia Tinkham and husband, Campbell, of Suffolk, Connie Yilmaz and husband, Koray, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; son, Raymond Anderson and wife, Sylvia, of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Robin Harris and husband Mark, Lisa Clements and husband Mark, Christopher Tinkham and wife Sheila, David Tinkham and wife Dawn, Whit Anderson and wife Amy, Julie Wang and husband Mark, Derek and Lukas Yilmaz and Kent Kendall; and nine great-grandchildren, Austin and Taylor Clements, Christina and Jason Tinkham, Tyler Tinkham, Mason and Chase Anderson and James and Dean Wang.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434, by the Rev. Jim George. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Red Cross-Suffolk Chapter, 157 N.
