Irma Lassiter Bland, 87, a wonderful mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at Consulate Healthcare in Windsor. She was the widow of L.P. Bland III and the daughter of the late Erma and Wallace B. Lassiter.
Born in Virginia, she was a school teacher for the Portsmouth Public Schools for 39 years. She touched many lives, not only through teaching, but the many friendships she had.
She is survived by her son, Richard P. Bland and wife, Angie, of Windsor; granddaughters, Amanda Bland, Meagan Jenkins (Adam); and a great-granddaughter to be born in June, Aubrey Jenkins; sister-in-law, Nan Seeley; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Bland and wife, Jane.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, by Pastor Lisa Nordan with burial at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett’s Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, on Monday, May 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund at the above address.
