The blue team and the red team will be facing off in a flag football game on April 27 at Peanut Park.

A red-and-blue trophy will be handed to the winners. The Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue is looking to redeem itself after losing to the Suffolk Police Department last year.

But the real reason for the annual face-off between the public safety professionals is fighting cancer.

Proceeds from the game benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, which will be held May 17 this year at Bennett’s Creek Park. Last year’s inaugural event drew a good turnout, but mostly from friends and family of the players and other department members, the Suffolk Police Department’s Amanda Morean said.

“This year, we wanted to actually open it up to the public so they would know they could come,” Morean said. “Everybody’s out there for a reason, but they still have a good time.”

Admission to the 11 a.m. game at Peanut Park, 308 S. Saratoga St., is a $5 donation. Concessions and pom-poms will be for sale.
