A Suffolk man was arrested on suspicion of shooting at another man Tuesday night as a third man pushed him by in a wheelchair.

It was one of a rash of shooting incidents that occurred in about 24 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday nights. Police already have made two arrests and do not believe any of the incidents are related, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the 300 block of Spruce Street. A 20-year-old male victim reported he began to run after he saw a man in a wheelchair, being pushed by another man, shoot at him eight times.

Police arrested 31-year-old Patrick Almonzo Stovall and charged him with use or display of a firearm in commission of a felony, attempted aggravated malicious wounding, discharging a firearm in public and sale or distribute marijuana.

In another incident that occurred about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on Fayette Street, two people reported being shot at while driving in their vehicle. Officers discovered the incident “involved the confrontation of a group of male subjects which escalated to the point of several shots being fired at victim as he was leaving in a vehicle,” Klink wrote in an email.

Charles Douglas Hyman Jr., 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with discharging a firearm in a public place, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of attempted malicious shooting, and maliciously shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

In another incident, a male victim reported he had been sitting on a bench in the 100 block of Hall Avenue before 9:40 p.m. when he was approached by several black males asking for money. When he told them he had none, they shot him in the hand and fled on foot. The victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police still are investigating.

In the final shooting incident on Wednesday, police responded to a shots-fired call at 10:19 p.m. in the 2300 block of Kings Fork Road. The resident stated he was watching television in his residence when he heard several shots coming from the road. There are no suspects at this time.
