Former Warrior has huge night for ECU

East Carolina defeated Memphis 38-19 on Tuesday night in a Conference USA football contest. Wide receiver Darryl Freeney (Nansemond River) had five catches for 116 yards and a touchdown for the Pirates. Freeney scored on a 31-yard reception late in the third quarter to boost ECU’s lead to 35-13. Freeney has 11 receptions for 172 yards on the season.
ECU (5-3, 4-1) hosts Virginia Tech on Thursday, Nov. 5 in a rematch of ECU’s 27-22 victory versus the Hokies in 2008.
Randolph-Macon’s women’s volleyball team clinched the regular season title in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and will be the No. 1 seed in the ODAC Tournament for the first time in program history with a 3-set sweep against visiting Randolph on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s match was Senior Night for six Lady Yellow Jackets, including April Hines (Nansemond River). Hines is averaging 6.7 kills and 2.9 blocks per match for RMC (21-5, 8-1).
RMC travels to Atlanta to play in a tournament at Emory College on Friday and Saturday. The ODAC Tournament will be Nov. 6-7.
Radford’s field hockey team clinched a share of first place in the Eastern Division of the NorPac Conference on Sunday with a 3-1 win at Appalachian State.
Sophomore back Lynsey Daughtrey (Lakeland) has started all 17 matches this season and has started 38 straight matches for Radford. Daughtrey has two goals, six assists and two defensive saves this season.
Radford (9-8, 5-1) plays Georgetown on Sunday in Washington, D.C. The NorPac Tournament is set for Nov. 5-7 in Stanford, Cal.
