The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Friday in response to forecasted high temperatures and high humidity. The advisory is set to begin at noon Friday and expire at 7 p.m.

According to the service, temperatures are expected to climb into the high 90s to near 100 degrees. Combined with the humidity, forecasters are calling for heat index values well above 100 degrees, likely falling between 105 and 109 degrees.

Friday is just the first of three extremely hot days forecast by the National Weather Service.

In fact, Suffolk could see record highs on Saturday and Sunday with high temperatures forecast to be 101 degrees both days.

Official historical data is not available for Suffolk through the National Weather Service, but according to The Weather Channel, the record high temperature for Friday, July 23 is 101 degrees recorded in 1952. The record high for July 24 is 96 degrees, reached in 1972, while the record high for July 25 is 98 degrees, recorded in 2004.

Again according to The Weather Channel, the record high temperature for Suffolk overall was reached in June 1952 when the temperature hit 105 degrees.

As with any heat advisory the National Weather Service does urge caution during these extremely hot temperatures.

“The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” the service said in a Friday morning release. “Drink plenty of fluids. Stay in an air-conditioned room. Stay in the shade if possible and check up on relatives and neighbors.”
