Isle of Wight Academy’s Metro Conference Tournament hopes were dashed Friday as the Chargers fell to eventual champions Atlantic Shores, 50-27, in semifinal action at Denbigh Baptist.
The Chargers will play Greenbrier Christian at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jester Gymnasium in the first round of the VISAA Division III Tournament. The winner of that contest will play at Amelia Academy Wednesday.
Isle of Wight, 60-58 winners over Shores in their last meeting Jan. 29, quickly fell behind as the Seahawks ran off 23 of the first 28 points to take a commanding lead into the second quarter. Shores’ Brehon Britt, who, along with Javon Gibbs, had 14 points for the game, had seven of his points in the first quarter.
Offensively, IWA couldn’t keep up. The team had five points in the first quarter, and its leading scorer, Nathan Sivertson, averaging 19.3 points per game coming into the contest, finished with 3 points. No Chargers finished in double figures.
IWA dropped to 20-8.
