A woman has been charged in what police say was a hit-and-run involving the Chick-fil-A cow.

Katrina Lovett Boone, 38, of Sunbury, N.C., was arrested Wednesday for felony hit and run — personal injury.

The incident happened about 11:20 a.m. Monday at the Chick-fil-A restaurant on North Main Street. Brittany Knight, 19, was injured while crossing the drive-through lane in the restaurant’s cow costume.

“The driver stopped briefly, made inquiry into the status of the person struck, then continued on through the drive-through, obtained her food and drove away from the location,” city spokeswoman Diana Klink wrote in an email.

Restaurant owner Nicole Digby said the incident was captured on surveillance video, which was provided to police.

Employees who witnessed the incident also had given their statements to police, she said.

Digby said she contacted her insurance company that day. She also said Knight’s leg is not broken, as other media outlets have reported, though she is injured.

“I feel bad for the whole situation,” Digby said. “If I was her, I’d probably never get in a cow costume again.”

Klink said the suspect called the restaurant and Suffolk police after seeing news stories about the incident.

“In cases where a driver knows they have injured someone, they are required to report their name, address, driver’s license number and vehicle registration number to the Police Department or to the person struck and injured and provide reasonable aid,” Klink said.

A court date for Boone has not yet been set.
