Minister Wendell Barrett, 56, of 2528 Bird Lane, Portsmouth, Va., died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Daisy Barrett, of Bridgesport, Conn., and the late William Henry Deloatch.

He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of St. Stephen P.H.C. in Whaleyville.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Malissia Barrett and Shonda Barrett, of Corinth, Texas; one son, Wendell Barrett Jr., of Allentown, Pa.; four grandchildren; sisters, Joan Barrett, Mona Barrett and Rena Barrett, all of Bridgeport, Conn., Rosa Hall, Pearline V. Carroll and Barbara Young, all of Suffolk, Alma Robison, of Chesapeake, Va., Latrice Felton, of Franklin, Va., and Kimberly Cobb, of Killeen, Texas; four brothers, Carl Deloach, of Franklin, Chris Miles, of North Carolina, Jake Deloatch, of Washington, D.C., and William Demary; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at Rising St. James PHC, 201 N. 6th St., Suffolk, officiated by Elder Aaron Porter. Interment will be at Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Odessa Carroll, 1900 Myrick Ave., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
