The Suffolk Police Department recently unveiled a new website that features a redesigned format to coordinate with other city departments, photos of employees performing various aspects of police work, commonly requested information and more.

“Websites are the first stop for employment seekers, and our new redesign communicates our commitment to our community and the professionalism of our department,” said Maj. Stephanie Burch, who headed the internal redesign committee. “We anticipate that its contemporary look and high-tech feel will make us an employer of choice in Hampton Roads.”

The internal redesign committee worked with the Department of Media and Community Relations and the Addison Group, an outside marketing firm.

The new home page features rotating photos of police department personnel, including the SWAT team, marine patrol, forensics unit, bicycle patrol and administration.

Other new features include a homeland security page, crime prevention tips, videos, a history photo slideshow and a page for Hispanic citizens.

The Hispanic page features biographies and photos of three Spanish-speaking officers, a video made by the trio, and information on the police department written in Spanish. The special page is a response to a growing Hispanic population.

A frequently asked questions section also includes answers to topics such as curfew, how to obtain a copy of a police report and more. A link to the FAQ section is located right on the front page of the site.

“The goal was to push the most important information to the front page for easier navigation, and to make the site more user friendly,” Burch said.

Past members of the department, as well as the public, are welcome to submit photos to add to the photo slideshow.

In addition, people who are looking for jobs with the Suffolk Police Department can find deadlines, requirements and more information on the site. Press releases on crimes, traffic accidents and other police-related topics also are posted on the site.
