NSA girls win first conference battle

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ basketball team won on the road in a low-scoring battle with conference opponent Walsingham Academy, 37-24 on Tuesday night.

It was the first conference game of the season for the Lady Saints, and they were led by junior guard Jessica Pieroni who had a double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds, to go with three steals.

Junior guard/forward Kaylor Nash contributed nine points, six rebounds and four steals, while Caroline Hogg had eight points and five blocks. Freshman guard Harper Birdsong chipped in six points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

NSA is currently ranked fourth among Division II schools in the first state poll released by the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association.

The Lady Saints (12-3, 1-0) played their second conference game last night against host Peninsula Catholic.

Saints lose big to Walsingham

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ basketball team was greatly outmatched on the road against top-ranked Walsingham Academy, losing 62-13 on Tuesday.

The Trojans are ranked number one in the state among Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II schools. With this win, they improved to 16-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools.

The Saints fell to 1-18 and 0-2 in the conference and played Peninsula Catholic last night.
