CORAPEAKE, N.C. — On Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, God beckoned our loved one, Bishop Fred Scott Sr., home. Bishop Scott was the son of the late Shellie Scott and Rachel Mizell Scott. He was preceded in death by his siblings, McKinley Scott, Thelma Scott George and Elnora Scott.

Bishop Scott was the founder and senior pastor of the Word for Living Gospel Fellowship Center, Inc. Bishop Scott began his ministry at the New Mount Joy COGIC where he grew in faith under the watchful leadership of Bishop W.P. Wiggins.

He leaves cherished memories with his wife of 49 years, the Rev. Dr. Maurice Reid Scott; four daughters, Martha Parker, Sherry Rowe, Angela Elam and Felicia Carroll, all of Suffolk; four sons, Fred R. Scott Jr., of Chesapeake, Va., Shelley R. Scott, of Corapeake, N.C., Robert O. Scott, of Douglasville, Ga., and James E. Scott, of Suffolk; a loving mother-in-law, Inez Reid Copeland, 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous extended grandchildren. Bishop Scott is also survived by two sisters, Diane Spratley, of Corapeake, N.C., and Charlene Wiggins, of Suffolk; four brothers, Lloyd, Clifton and Cleveland Scott, all of Corapeake, N.C. and Charles Scott, of Hamilton Township, N.J. Also to carry his memories are three aunts, Carrie Scott, of Miami, Fla., Priscilla Mizell, of Suffolk, and Vivian Mizell, of North Carolina; two uncles, Randolph Scott, of Miami, Fla., and George Reid, of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bishop Scott will be eulogized on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at noon. The services will be held at the New Mount Joy Family Worship Center, 307 County St., Suffolk, Va., and the body will be interred at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Word for Living Gospel Fellowship Center, Inc. Final arrangements are being handled by Crocker Funeral Home and there will be no public viewing prior to the funeral. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
