Randolph-Macon’s women’s volleyball team won the ODAC (Old Dominion Athletic Conference) Tournament on Saturday at Hollins University. The Lady Yellow Jackets won nine of the 10 sets they played in the tournament.

Senior middle hitter April Hines (Nansemond River) had nine kills, four aces and three digs for RMC in the final match, a four-set win over Roanoke. For the season, Hines is averaging 6.1 kills and 2.9 blocks.

RMC has set a school record for wins in a season (28-6) and went 12-1 against conference opponents for the season.

RMC advances to the NCAA Div. III Tournament and will travel to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Tex. for, potentially, their first three rounds of the tournament. RMC faces Trinity (Tex.) in the first round on Wednesday.

James Madison’s field hockey team lost in the semifinals of the CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Tournament in Philadelphia on Saturday. Delaware beat the Lady Dukes 2-1 in overtime.

Senior Kelsey Cutchins (Lakeland) made eight saves in goal for JMU.

JMU was ranked No. 11 nationally going into the tournament and could still make the NCAA Tournament. The field is to be announced on Tuesday.

Radford’s field hockey team finished third in the NorPac Tournament in Stanford, Cal. over the weekend. Radford beat California-Davis 2-0, lost to California 3-0 and beat Longwood 3-2 in the tournament.

Sophomore back Lynsey Daughtrey (Lakeland) contributed an assist in the Longwood match and finishes the season with two goals, seven assists and two defensive saves.

Radford (11-10) had its first winning season since 1996 and the most wins in a season for a Lady Highlander team since 1991.

Christopher Newport will host Cabrini in a first round game of the NCAA Div. III Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

CNU (15-3) is No. 12 nationally. Junior Katelyn Yandle (Nansemond River) has six goals and a team-high eight assists. Freshman Breanne Lowe (Nansemond River) has played in 15 matches for CNU.

CNU’s men’s soccer team will host a first round match in the NCAA Div. III Tournament, also against Cabrini, on a date to be determined.

The Captains (17-2-1) won the USA South Conference Tournament on Saturday, beating N.C. Wesleyan 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout. The Captains and Bishops were tied 1-1 through regulation. CNU is ranked No. 5 in the nation.

Sophomore defender Trevor Moyer (Nansemond River) has played in all 20 matches, making nine starts, for the Captains.

Sophomore wide receiver Darryl Freeney (Nansemond River) had four receptions for 50 yards on Thursday night for East Carolina as Virginia Tech beat ECU in Greenville, N.C., 16-3.

East Carolina (5-4, 4-1) travels to face Tulsa on Sunday night at 8:15 p.m. ECU has three games left in the regular season, all against Conference USA opponents.

Hampden-Sydney improved to 9-0 for the second time in its football history on Saturday with a 59-14 win against visiting Salisbury.

Senior wide receiver Adam Gillette (Nansemond-Suffolk) put HSC on the board with a 13-yard touchdown reception at the 7:55 mark of the first quarter. The Tigers went on to have a 31-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Two Tiger quarterbacks combined for 36-of-55 passing for 310 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Gillette finished with four catches for 42 yards.

HSC goes to Ashland on Saturday afternoon to face arch-rival Randolph-Macon (6-3). The Tigers and Yellow Jackets will be playing for the ODAC championship. RMC is the defending conference champion.

For the Yellow Jackets, junior cornerback Mark Jackson (Nansemond River) has 23 tackles, one interception and one blocked kick for the season.
