A Suffolk woman has been charged with felony child abuse after a childcare worker observed signs that appeared to indicate the woman’s 9-year-old child had been beaten with a belt.
Anita D. Scott, 27, of the 6000 block of College Drive, was charged on Monday with domestic assault, felony abuse and neglect of a child, cruelty and abuse of a child, contributing to the delinquency of a child and obstructing justice, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
The charges stem from an investigation that was undertaken when a childcare worker noticed injuries on the child that seemed to suggest “repeated and continued beating with a belt and belt buckle,” George stated in a press release on Tuesday.
Scott’s two children were removed from her care, and Scott is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
