Glozia Mae Sears departed this life on Feb. 11, 2011 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va. She was born Feb. 26, 1939 in Nansemond County, Va., to the late Willis C. and Rosa Brown. She was reared by a loving aunt, Willie Mae Perkins. Mrs. Sears was preceded in death by her husband, Hersey F. Sears Sr., and a brother, Willie Brown.

Glozia retired from the Newport News Shipyard. She was an active member of Balm of Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va. Glozia served as a pastor’s aide, missionary, member of the Widow’s Club, chairperson of the Sick and Shut-In Ministry, and was an outstanding member of the Sunday School and Bible Study class.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving family of five sons, Hersey F. Sears Jr., (Debora P.), Michael R. Sears (Sharon), Keith D. Sears (Sherryl), George T. Sears and Willie N. Sears; two daughters, Bridget Sears Demary (William H.) and Shelia L. Sears; four stepchildren, Kenny V. Peebles (Donna), Glenn Peebles, Travis Peebles and Jacqueline Peebles; 27 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Ethel Hargrave (Malachi), Margaret A. Sears, Carrie M. Scott and Patricia Hargrove; two brothers-in-law, Albert Tillery and William Sears; two goddaughters, Barbara Jefferson and Angela Nelson; a special friend, Raymond Goodman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Macedonia AME Church, 127 Pine St., Suffolk, on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at noon officiated by the Rev. William Morris. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Balm of Gilead Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of William and Bridget Demary, 1367 Lawson Circle, Suffolk, and will assemble there at 11 a.m. Friday for the procession to the church. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at Crocker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
